I got a couple of new filters for my camera today, along with a shutter release remote. The biggest reason they were ordered was due to my recent trip to Indian Creek. I’m a big waterfall photographer, as are a lot of photographers, and I wanted to open up my options for photography of waterfalls.

Usually, you wait until around 5:00PM in the summer or 4:00PM in the fall and get out when the sun is just setting. However, with ND filters (my new gadgets,) I no longer have to wait until the end of the day. They are used to reduce the amount of light entering the lens, and therefore allow for longer exposures, and that silky smooth water you see in waterfall photos.

Anyways, since I got something new I had to go mess with it, so I took the new filters into the backyard and got a couple of photos of flowers. So, without further ado… here they are.

The strawberry flowers are really showing this year which may mean a big heap of yummy strawberries, straight from the garden.

My mother has a bunch of Iris’ in her back flower garden, they are huge, standing at about 4′ tall.

The ND Filters stacked with UV and CPL all create a vignette around the photos. You can kind of see it in the above Iris photo but you can definitely see it in this one… I kind of like it actually, it’s not harsh just soft enough to not take away, but instead it adds to the photo.

Last but not least, a small droplet of rain from the shower earlier today.

Take care!

Nice photos. Did you use a macro lenses to get these closeups. Oh, and I used Firefox this time. At the Times Record I found that Firefox seemed to work better on most sites.

Tom, I actually used my kit lens (18-55mm) for the two iris shots, and the others I used my 70-200mm F/4L zoomed all the way in, it takes some pretty decent close up shots.
