Continued from Paige Falls & Broadwater Hollow Falls
Magnolia Falls has a medium hike into it, but upon arrival at the falls it is all worth it.
Magnolia Falls was running absolutely fantastic Thursday, thanks to the downpour that caught us halfway down the trail. Matt and I became marathon professional trail runners within 5 minutes. We were almost sprinting towards the falls as it started to pour. We had brought rain protection for our gear, but didn’t want to get it too wet. Matt knew that there was an overhang at the falls and if we could only reach it… we might stay a bit more dry.
We turned the 1 mile hike into a 5 minute jog and reached Magnolia Falls within decent time. We might have even set a new record, but who knows? Just our luck, which in this case was good luck, the rain subsided as soon as we reached the falls. It was still really dark, thanks to the clouds, but the rain slowed to a drip and gave us a window for some awesome photos of Magnolia Falls.
Magnolia Falls is yet another waterfall that I had never seen before. This was my main thought process behind the planning. I thought we could hit a lot of falls that neither of us had seen before. Much to my surprise, or lack thereof, Matt had already seen all the waterfalls that I had planned for the day! He wasn’t the least bit reluctant in seeing them in such high water though and took the opportunity to tag along for the ride.
Magnolia Falls ended the day with a bang. As Matt and I hiked out we were greeted yet again with another short downpour. We weren’t going to complain though, the rain is what provided such an awesome day in the first place.
We’re now looking forward to see if this rain keeps up and brings along waterfalls with the fall foliage.
I had a great time on this trip. I’m sore for it, but I wouldn’t change anything about it. We used every last bit of daylight we had and saw some amazing waterfalls, and did it all in one day.
What more could one photographer ask for?
More rain of course!

The perfect day! Great stories and play by play. Sorry about the whelps!
Haha,
Thanks Mike, I’m not sure if whelps is the right word, but the bumps we had were terrible! Luckily they went as soon as they came after running that cold Haw Creek water over the skin.
Thanks Mike!
great shots and great articles. Yea I was a little sore the next day too.
