Brian gave me a call Friday night and was wondering about Petit Jean.
I was sore from the trip Thursday, but who was I to pass up another awesome chance to get some waterfall photos. I’m glad I didn’t, because Cedar Falls was running just as good as all the other waterfalls were running on Thursday!
Brian Cormack, Tamami Akagi, and I left Conway around 9 and headed for Morrilton, after stopping for some food at Sonic of course!
Brian had to be back in Little Rock around 2 so the trip was a bit hurried; however the time we had was well used.
The first stop we made at Petit Jean was at Bailey Falls. This is one of the most popular photos in Arkansas, the shot of the waterfall through Davies Bridge. I think my rendition totally annihilates all the others though, so go me!
After Bailey Falls we headed down to Mathers Lodge to start the hike into Cedar Falls.
I’m always amazed at the amount of people that show up to places on the weekend, but Cedar Falls totally annihilated all the other times I was amazed. I’m pretty sure that out of the 3 million parking spots at Mathers Lodge, that Brian, Tamami, and I got the LAST one!
License Plates from all 50 states were represented that day. I think people crawled out of holes all over North America to come visit Cedar Falls that day. I was simply amazed.
However, with all those people came the opportunity to take scale shots of the falls. Usually, when you see a shot from this view, you can’t tell how big Cedar Falls really is. It almost looks miniscule. However, I took it while a man was looking through his backpack, and it turned out to be a totally awesome photo!
Since Brian and I were in a hurry we headed back to town around 1:00… but Brian had to be in Little Rock at 2:00. I’m pretty sure he didn’t make it to the meeting, but he did have a cool excuse, he was studying the effects of the gravitational pull on water at Cedar Falls!
I hope you enjoyed this series of shots; stay tuned for many more photos from the Natural State!
This is off topic, but I would also like to note that the Gallery section will be undergoing changes over the next month. Hopefully, I’ll have it finished by the end of the month, but just in case, you know why it may or may not be working. Thank you!

I love these photos! They are so amazing
Thank you Love!
The study of the gravitational pull on water is a fascinating one. I’m probably too young to say it, but I doubt it’ll ever get boring…chasing waterfalls.
Those are some great shots!
Windy,
I took the idea from you! I’m going to agree, I will most likely never get too old to chase waterfalls!
Great shots – the one of the leaf looks really cool. Did you put that there?!?
I got there about 45 minutes late, whoops! But the pictures turned out pretty cool, I think. I haven’t had time yet to work on them.
But also – the shot from inside the Vibe is awesome. I wish I could zoom in on it to see if the XM radio was on “80s on 8.”
Did I put what where? Of course not! Every artist has their secrets! =P
I took a peak at John Blakney’s website, and he seems like an extremely laid back guy. I’m sure he didn’t mind too much, but you should have at least called to let him know you’d be late! Ethics Brian, ethics!
I agree about the shot from inside the Vibe, I’m loving it as well, they turned out really cool. We’ll have to try that while driving down different roads from now on. I took a look at the photograph up close and it was on 90s on 9!
All excellent Zack. I really like the second image of Bailey falls, I have been trying to get that shot for 2 or 3 trips but the light and wind just wouldn’t let it happen. Yours is excellent.
Alright…these are better than the ones I took back in May. You have better camera than I so.
hehe, I think when you went the water was running a lot better though! There was a bunch of water though, it was a great time to see it!
It was a perfect day! No wind and overcast, perfect combination.
